Hi All,
I'm thinking of applying for Walnut Hill.
It's a mainstream private school that focuses primarily on music and is directly linked with the NEC (New England conservatory).
Have any of you attended any mainstream private schools? If so, what have your experiences been?
uh.... does a private mainstream college count, it's catholic, they treat me welll I had a tough professor but well, they give okay accomodation if you speak up and give a bit of a push. sometimes they give the minimum but they like to work with you still and they check in on you.
I had a horrible time with disability services at my Christian college. Just be sure to scope out your advisors and the services, because private schools don't have to abide by the same "rules." Just be absolutely certain they are going to be willing to work with you.
Hi there,
I've had really good experiences with the disability services ad my college (it's not a private college, so I'm sorry if this doesn't help you). The only thing I'd say is, be very clear on what you want form them, and don't back down if they get fussy about providing what you need. But I know from speaking to others as well that they've also had really positive experiences with disability services in private colleges (three of my friends are in private colleges and don't have a bad word to say!).
I think you should go for it... if nothing else, you'll learn to be really assertive and good at getting what you need without stepping on toes (and sometimes by stepping very hard!). If that's what you want to do, then go for it!! Just my two cents. :)
